Goals

  • To understand the distribution of people who drive vehicles in India
  • To suggest readers on best practices
  • To bring to notice that what dangerous practices we have and to realize it
  • Future: To use this statistics along with suggestions for corrective actions that can be taken

Specimen

  • 63 persons who have a valid Indian Driving License
  • Most of the specimen were from South India

Outputs

  • 35% of people consider themselves as good drivers; Whereas 8% believe they are the best and 5% not good drivers.
  • A very good practice- Using helmet/seat belt while driving is followed by 59%, always. 27% use it most of the times.
  • 48% agree that they do rash driving, at least only in emergencies. And a funny finding- 29% of people do rash drive sometimes, without any specific reason.

  • More than half of people do not use mobile phones while driving.
  • More than 50% of people met with accidents, in which 30% of people claim that the mistake was on the other person. I believe there were people who hit on cattle and claim it was the cattle’s mistake. It is up to those who participated in the survey to make a discretion.
  • There are two kind of people who can be considered as dangerous drivers- those who drive zig zag and squeezing between other vehicles. Here is the statistics

  • Out of 59% of people who were caught by cops 38% were never changed with any penalties. Others are charged on various reasons
  • 38% percent of cases, cops accept bribes whereas rest were truthful!

Many of the participants believe that a centralized-integrated penal system should be in place.
