Fancy dress memories!

I remember once when Sangeeth was studying in 3rd standard, he wanted to participate in a fancy dress competition. We decided to dress him like an Andamanese tribal man. Given Sangeeth was very fair, we had to work a lot to make him black. We used some charcoal powder and coconut oil mixed together and pasting it all over the body. We did that excellently and dressed up with some jack fruit tree leaves. Stripes over face and a long pole in his hand. The ‘action’ was to eat something very aggressively and offering food to those onlookers. He went to the stage… took a banana. Suddenly he turned back and asked “Anna, what next?”… I said our plan in action. All went well. He won 2nd prize or so…

Coloring him black was much easier. We did not know how to remove the color!! We just had a piece of soap only, assuming that soaping with water will remove the color. We started the cleaning process… water, soap… more water, more soap… for god sake the color was not going off!! He remained black. Now, we are in panic! What if he remains black for his lifetime! I accidentally said that statement. Sangeeth was at the verge of breaking down.

Idea… I put the soap on to the ground and made some sand stick on it. Now, rubbing the sandy soap on my bro, his actual color started coming up. Wow… we got a way. We took hand full of sand and started rubbing. He is mostly white now… but still some ‘patty’-tinkering is left. We went home in a bus… He seemed to be worried all the way back to home.

When amma tried her effort to make him the original color, she found that he had rashes all over his body… The sand rub has shown its way :)…

For many days after, whenever we were eating bananas, we ate as if an uncivilized tribe (based on movie cliches)…

Next time when I meet him, We will buy two bananas and repeat it…

Memories… 🙂
